It wouldn’t be the Thanksgiving holiday without delicious apple pie! Well, we’re switching it up just a bit this year. Send warm welcomes to our Dutch Apple Pie Popcorn recipe. This is a must for your Thanksgiving feast.
Ingredients
– 6 cups prepared popcorn
Streusel:
– 1/3 cups brown sugar
– 1/3 cup granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
– 1 1/2 cups flour
Caramel Apple Sauce:
– 1/4 cup apple juice
– 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
– 1 cup brown sugar
– 1/4 cup corn syrup
– *Optional: 1 cap-full apple extract (candy and baking flavoring – available at Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby)
Preparation
– Prepare popcorn
– Preheat oven to 250°
– Mix brown sugar, sugar, and butter (1/2 cup) with a mixer
– Once incorporated, add flour until mixture creates small clumps
– Spread streusel mixture into an even layer on baking sheet
– Bake for 10 minutes
– Over medium heat in a medium sauce pan, melt butter (1/4 cup)
– Add sugar and apple juice and allow to simmer for 5 minutes
– Add corn syrup and stir until evenly incorporated
– Take off heat and add apple extract
– Pour apple caramel mixture over popcorn; stir
– Spread popcorn onto a lined baking sheet and add streusel on top
– Bake at 250° for 10 minutes
